Make Email Notification Channel optional

When using the MS365 channel as the main email channel you can already send and receive emails with your configured support emails from the MS365 channel. This is great as you don’t need to set up the Email Channel using sendmail or an smtp server.
Sadly though, as described in this issue the Email Channel and hence the Health Monitoring of Zammad will always throw an error, for example
Channel: Email::Notification out Can't use Channel::Driver::Sendmail: #<Errno::EACCES: Permission denied - /usr/sbin/sendmail>
or
Can’t use Channel::Driver::Smtp: #<Net::SMTPAuthenticationError:Net::SMTPAuthenticationError>

This makes the usage of the Monitoring a bit useless, as there will always be an error even though, from our point of view, the system is running as expected.

The only solution provided was either installing sendmail or setting up an smtp server but I find this is more of a workaround and not a good solution.

Hence I would like the ability to either turn of the error from the Email Channel or make the Email Channel optional in order for the error to not appear.

My Zammad environment:
Version 6.2.0-1706605597.530c7efe.jammy using package on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS

  • Average concurrent agent count:
  • Average tickets a day:
  • What roles/people are involved:

Thank you
Niklas
